The Marine Science Center’s proximity to Boston (12 miles) provides easy access to all the city has to offer via car, the “T” or commuter rail. A number of fall festivals and events celebrate the return of students to Boston area universities. One example is the 39th Head of the Charles Regatta which is held along Boston's Charles River in Boston in October.

Lynn Woods is the second largest urban park in the United States, and is located 7 miles from the MSC. It’s a great destination for hiking, bird watching, or trail running. Students eager to mountain bike can find some of the most diverse and challenging trails in New England.

Fall provides students an excellent opportunity to experience 3 New England seasons. In September you can still spend weekends swimming at the beaches of Nahant, or you can head down to Cape Cod to enjoy its extensive seashore. During October and November you can experience peak fall foliage, and join “leaf peepers” in Central Massachusetts and New Hampshire. In late November through the end of the fall semester, New Hampshire and Maine ski areas are opening their slopes for the winter season.
